Contest Information: The Walt Whitman Birthplace State Historic Site and Interpretive Center sponsors an annual poetry contest. The organizers seek to expose young people to the work of Walt Whitman by encouraging them to study and mirror his work. Each contest is centered around a specific theme and model poem. Students are to create an original poem based upon the theme provided, and model their writing style after that of Walt Whitman. Where do I begin?
